We are talking about this concept of R.E.A.L. Living- to be Refined, Equipped, Anointed, and Liberated. That is the key to the exceptional life!
The prior posts delve into more detail on being Refined and Equipped! Certainly you are well on your way, if you got those 2 under your belt! But being cleansed is not enough as God has given us gifts and talents we must put to use. Thus, he has equipped us for a purpose. However, in order to fulfill that purpose, we need his Anointing.
We are nothing without God. We are ineffective without His Spirit.
An early biblical practice was the physical anointing of one’s head. Priests were anointed with oil, later followed by Samuel anointing both Saul and later David as kings of Israel. This anointing signified a person as a chosen one among other people. (https://www.compellingtruth.org/anointed.html)
Later in the New Testament we see that Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit. In Luke 4:18 it says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”
The Anointing is the Holy Spirit in us enabling us to demonstrate God’s love and power in a manner beyond our own individual capacity.
To do and be all that God is calling us to be requires us to live under the authority and conviction of the Holy Spirit, so that the mantle of God’s anointing can rest on our lives. We are not perfect people, and so it is a humbling experience to encounter the power and grace of a perfect God. Nevertheless, we must always have the hunger and humility of David, just as he cries out in Psalm 51,
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
The journey will not be easy, but it will be worth it. It will be rewarding. When it gets hard we need God to sustain us. When we are feeling stuck and stubborn, we need God to renew our spirits. And at all times, we need to be enveloped in His presence and filled daily with His Spirit.
