Anointing: Take Not Your Spirit From Me O God!

We are talking about this concept of R.E.A.L. Living- to be Refined, Equipped, Anointed, and Liberated. That is the key to the exceptional life!

The prior posts delve into more detail on being Refined and Equipped! Certainly you are well on your way, if you got those 2 under your belt! But being cleansed is not enough as God has given us gifts and talents we must put to use. Thus, he has equipped us for a purpose. However, in order to fulfill that purpose, we need his Anointing.

We are nothing without God. We are ineffective without His Spirit.

An early biblical practice was the physical anointing of one’s head. Priests were anointed with oil, later followed by Samuel anointing both Saul and later David as kings of Israel. This anointing signified a person as a chosen one among other people. (

Later in the New Testament we see that Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit. In Luke 4:18 it says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”

The Anointing is the Holy Spirit in us enabling us to demonstrate God’s love and power in a manner beyond our own individual capacity.

To do and be all that God is calling us to be requires us to live under the authority and conviction of the Holy Spirit, so that the mantle of God’s anointing can rest on our lives. We are not perfect people, and so it is a humbling experience to encounter the power and grace of a perfect God. Nevertheless, we must always have the hunger and humility of David, just as he cries out in Psalm 51,

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

The journey will not be easy, but it will be worth it. It will be rewarding. When it gets hard we need God to sustain us. When we are feeling stuck and stubborn, we need God to renew our spirits. And at all times, we need to be enveloped in His presence and filled daily with His Spirit.

What’s in your tool box?

A few months ago, I posted about the first part to R.E.A.L. Living is being refined. If you haven’t read it, it’s worth the time to go back to the previous post.

Once we are cleansed and purified, we need to look inside of ourselves and look to God to determine what He has EQUIPPED us for?

Merriam Webster defines Equipped as “Supply with the necessary items for a particular purpose, to make ready, and to furnish for action by appropriate provisioning.”

My intellect, passions, skills, energy, and talent all work together for a divine purpose. God is equipping us. He is making us ready for a particular purpose.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 in the Amplified Bible (AMP) says “All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and  thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

As we embark on a new year, I just want to encourage you to take some time to reflect on what gifts and talents God has given you and how you are using it for His good work.

It is so easy to get caught up in the hectic pace of work, living, and consuming- that we miss the big picture. Let this not just be another year that passes by. Let us not settle for the mundane, mediocre, and middle of the road living. I am declaring and believing that 2019 will be a defining year. A pivotal year. A year of great reward!

Through the Fire. Pure as Gold.

Becoming the Exceptional Women God is calling us to be is not about fads and fashion. It’s not about fake facades or perfection or the perception that we don’t have fears or failures. It’s about experiencing life change by encountering a real God. It’s about allowing His transformative power to recreate us from the inside out so that we may reflect his true righteousness.

Time To Get R.E.A.L!

In a world of “selfies” and “posting perfection” in the social media realm, it is easy to lose sight of what really matters. It’s easy to lose the virtue and value of just being authentically YOU. At first glance, getting R.E.A.L. is about getting real. It’s about peeling back the layers of makeup, putting the camera down, and looking into the mirror of reality. On a deeper level it’s about being Refined, Equipped, Anointed, and Liberated.
